Update and what we know

Many of you are inquiring for an update on what is happening with Rosalie Maronese. There are two significant developments that are underway presently.

1. We can report that Rosalie has been charged with two counts of fraud and will be facing trial this December. These charges stem from a ticket scam that Rosalie was perpetuating on victims in and around the Calgary area. The charges are related to Maronese offering tickets to Calgary Flames games for buyers and not providing the tickets. CTV covered the story in the Calgary area and you can read it by clicking on this link.
   
2. Alberta Government Services is conducting an investigation into Rosalie Maronese in regards to her nanny services and dayhome activities. As many of you know victims provided Maronese with deposits for services and never received (in some cases) service or refunds when they cancelled their contracts with Rosalie. Those that have not filed a complaint with Alberta Government Services may not be represented by the department in their investigation at this time.
   

Rosalie appears to have left the Calgary area in late 2006 or early 2007. We believe her to be in Ontario but expect that she will have to return in December to face the charges brought against her by the Calgary Police Service.

this very bad lady also victimized my younger sister! I don't know how was she asble to get our numbers home phone and cell number! She called up and recruited my sister who just graduated and passed the PT board exam here in philippines! She told my sister that she will be needing 2 physical therapist. She insisted that we would give her 1500 dollars right away so that her application would be faster! We gave her the said amount through WESTERN UNION! After that we seldom hear anything from her! The worst thing was she never called! and we came to a point that we were the ones calling her to calgary Canada just to follow-up my sister's application! WE HOPE WE CAN GET OUR MONEY BACK!!! AND WE HOPE SHE GOES TO JAIL!!! People like her must be ROTTEN INSIDE THE JAIL!!! Go to HELL!!!!

Amazing what you find

So with tax time around the corner how should we all deal with the money that we gave Rosalie for services? We think you should claim them!!

This may prompt an audit by CRA given the fact that she is taking deposits and in many cases not providing receipts or refunds.

Rosalie's trial date has been put over again. Her lawyer appeared for her this morning and stated something about disclosure. Two new dates have been put forward we will confirm them when they are made available.

What we do know at this time is that Rosalie is in Ontario and AGS is still investigating.

An Alberta home contractor has been sent to jail for 90 days after taking money in advance for jobs he never completed.

Max Samoila of Medicine Hat pleaded guilty in provincial court Thursday under Alberta's Fair Trading Act to failing to refund homeowners' money within 15 days of the cancellation date of contracts.

Announcing the conviction Monday, provincial officials said homeowners should resist booking the first person available to do the job in a buoyant economy where tradespeople are often overbooked.

"Most reputable contractors have charge accounts with their suppliers and don't require money up front," said Eoin Kenny, spokesman for Service Alberta.

"If a contractor does ask for money up front, you should then ask to see his prepaid contractor's licence. That's a provincial licence that requires a contractor to be licensed and to have a security in place – some form of guarantee."

Kenny adds that people should check a contractor's references before signing a contract, which should outline start and completion dates.


Samoila, who is not licensed by the province or bonded as a prepaid contractor, has to pay restitution of $99,900 to the homeowners and will be on probation for 33 months after completing his 90-day sentence.

In one case, a couple contracted him to build a home for $130,000.

After they gave Samoila more than $100,000, he told the couple he couldn't do any more work on the home. The couple paid an extra $98,000 to have someone else complete the job, plus they had to pay $10,000 to remove a lien on their home after Samoila didn't pay a supplier.

In two other cases, Samoila refused to refund deposits of about $14,000 and $2,500 to his clients.

A date has been set for January 17, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. in court room # 102 at the Provincial Court House, Criminal Division, on 6th Ave SE (next to the public library and Bow Valley College). It doesn't mean she'll necessarily show up. She may just have representation.

Seeking information on SE Prestwick Dayhome

For any of those reading the blog. It has come to our attention that Rosalie was perpetrating the same activities in South East Calgary in the community of Prestwick. If you are a victim please respond. Your identity will be kept confidential.

We are seeking information on the location and address of this (Prestwick) property including a timeframe as to when she was supposed to be providing services. As well any NSF cheques Rosalie may have written and any documentation Rosalie may have provided. These details can be forwarded to the AGS investigator. (See link on right of page)

Information that would be useful for meeting

One of the avenues that we are pursuing is the tax evasion angle.

We are going to pursue the CRA angle and put together a package for the CRA tax investigations unit. In order to shed more light on this issue and make a stronger case, we could really use the help of the other victims.  A statement outlining the amount given to Rosalie, when , at what location and for what services. Also, proof of receipt, cashed cheques, invoices would also help. We suspect some people have done this already and submitted it to the police (we should hope so anyway). With respect to her recruiting company business, a statement from the employees or victims of that fraud would also help.

Other useful information that CRA is looking for is net worth information, such as assets, liabilities, personal expenditures, etc.

Also, we would appreciate the GST information. Rosalie Maronese does have a registered GST account, but we're not sure if she ever claimed for GST.  Anyway, this is also useful info we would like to include in our brief to CRA.

Any documentation you can all bring to the upcoming meeting is appreciated. Let us all keep working to put a stop to her ways.

It may not get you your money back, but it will make other agencies aware of Rosalie Maronese's schemes. The more complaints, the better.
